The Ripple Effect Continues…

So, I thought I had it all worked out.  All finished.  Just when you think you have it whooped, somebody changes the rules.  Holy crap.  So, my wife’s phone went to Hannah (Blackberry Bold 9000), my old Blackberry Bold 9000 went to Abbey, and I had them all configured and working…until…my Bold’s scroller ball croaked.  Of course it isn’t under warranty, so I had to give Abbey my elderly iPhone 3G that I’ve been using for testing.  Now of course Hannah wants an iPhone instead of the Blackberry, because the Blackberry is too complicated for an 11 year old.  I can’t just go to the AT&T store and nab two new iPhones because they’re toooooo expensive and what’s worse, they REQUIRE you to enable Internet ($40 extra per month per phone - not happening).  OY.  So, now I’m Craigslist-ing my butt off too find a similar iPhone for cheap (no such thing) for Hannah so that they can have “the same.”  I had to transfer all of Abbey’s contact info and all that crap to the Bold 9000, and then, when it croaked, I had to start over with the iPhone.  She wanted all of her iPod Touch stuff saved and put onto the iPhone (pictures, contacts, music, apps, etc).  I did that, but I lost her pictures and most of her apps…because I’m still trying to figure out what the hell I’m doing with iTunes. :)  She wasn’t happy to have lost her stuff, but she was happy to have the iPhone.

Then, the ripple effect went one step further.  Suddenly the decision was made to give Abbey’s iPod to her cousin, who had always wanted one and couldn’t afford it.  So, there I was resetting that unit and getting all of the accessories together…joy.  Basically my world has turned into death-by-smartphone-migration for a week.  My good friend Keith Parsons suggested Me.com, and it’s helped considerably…except when I mis-merge something…oh, you don’t want to do that. :(  When I signed up for that, I spent 4 hours speeding around the house getting everyone’s computers hooked in, 4 accounts signed up (after paying the $150 for the family pack), and now, I’m just hoping I can find a decent iPhone 3G or 3GS on Criagslist locally.  Ugh.  I’ve decided that the only way to fix this nightmare is to switch everybody and everything over to one platform, and in my case it will be Macs and iPhones…as soon as money allows.  I just don’t have time for the administrative aspects to all of this.  HOLY smokes batman.
